Very Early Spanish Miquelet c1640 – 60

$8500
A very early Spanish Miquelet flint pistol in excellent condition for its age dating from the mid 17th century.
A band separates the octagonal to round parts of the .74 caliber smooth bore barrel which measures 9 ¼ inches. Overall the pistol measures a substantial 15 ¼ inches. The maker’s mark on the top barrel flat is now unrecognizable.
The Miquelet lock is in good working order.
The trigger guard, butt cap, side plate, wrist decoration and rammer pipes are all of engraved brass with silver female busts on the side plate, trigger guard wrist and butt cap. This brass work would have had a gold wash when it was new. There is evidence of this still remaining in the square makers mark on the barrel.
The carved stock is in a good condition with few handling marks.
