Unsigned Irish Percussion Coat Pistol c1840

An unsigned, percussion, coat pistol, probably Irish, made around 1840. The shape of the grip and flat top barrel suggest Irish rather than British manufacture.

The .48 calibre, smoothbore, sighted barrel measures 4 ¼ inches with the whole pistol measuring 8 ½ inches.

The unadorned, back action lock is in working order.

The iron furniture and stock with a short, chequered grip are in good condition. The brass tipped rammer may or not be original to the pistol.
