Transitional Percussion Revolver by Bourne

The bar hammer, transitional revolver was a cheap alternative to the Colt revolvers. This six shot, transitional revolver was made by Joseph Bourne of Birmingham in the mid 1800s.

The 54 bore, octagonal barrel measures 5 ¾ inches with the whole revolver measuring around 12 inches.

The barrel top flat is faintly marked ‘JOSEPH BOURNE’. The underside has Birmingham proofs, the number ‘189’ and the letters ‘T.H.’ The cylinder also has Birmingham proofs.

An unusual feature of this revolver is that is has a sighting channel cut into the bar hammer. See photos.

The action works but the cylinder and barrel are loose and the chequered grips show wear.

Typical period engraving is found on cylinder, frame, hammer, trigger guard and butt cap.

All in all a typical mid 1800s transitional revolver that needs a good clean up.
