Snaphaunce Pistol Marked P MORET

A fine and rare, Italian, snaphaunce pistol with the barrel marked ‘P MORET’ made mid 18^th century or earlier. The name ‘P MORET’ may be short for Pietro Moret of Brecia.

The .43 caliber, octagonal to round, unsighted, smoothbore barrel with center band, measures 7 ¼ inches with the whole pistol measuring 13 ¼ inches.

The lock plate, cock and striking plate all have foliate engraving. The action is at fault.

The elaborate iron furniture with belt hook is in good condition. There are mystical serpents engraved on the trigger bow and side plate and a sun face on the pommel.

The full-length walnut stock with horn tip is in good condition. The horn tipped rammer also appears original to the pistol.
