Queen Anne Pocket by Farmer & Galton c1760

$3750

A delightful, mid 18th century, Queen Anne, cannon barrel flintlock pocket pistol by Farmer & Galton.

The partnership of James Farmer & Samuel Galton was active from 1746 till 1773.

The round, .44 caliber, smooth bore, three stage, screw off cannon barrel measures 2 ¼ inches with the whole pistol measuring just over 7 ½ inches. Proof marks appear under the breach.

The round frame lock and breech are delicately engraved with military themes. The right side has an engraved scroll with ‘FARMER – GALTON’. The cock, flash pan and front of the frizzen have stipple engraving around their boarders.

The action is very, very stiff It still holds half and full cock but needs assistance to release.

The bulbous, walnut, bag grip is in very good condition with fine wire inlay, flowers and an engraved silver crest plate. The wire appears to be silver coated brass. There are areas of wear with the brass showing through.

The fine silver crest plate is engraved with a rampant lion under an eight-point star.

The un-hallmarked silver butt cap also features a rampant lion atop a stone wall ruin.

The pistol also comes with a custom-made display case.

All in all a beautiful, delicate and fine quality pocket pistol, not meant for the average person.
