Queen Anne Flintlock by Thomas Archer c1780

An attractive, box-lock Queen Anne, flintlock pistol by Thomas Archer made around 1780. Thomas is recorded as working out of Birmingham from 1775 to 1818. Interesting to note, that the pistol has early London proofs.

The brass, screw-off, .60 caliber, round, smoothbore, cannon barrel measures 5 ¼ inches with the whole pistol measuring 12 ½ inches.

The lock has ‘T ARCHER’ engraved in a scroll surrounded by luxurious foliage. Early London proofs along with the barrel markers mark ‘TA’ is found under the breech. The action which features a reenforced cock, is in working order.

Note that the top jaw and screw appear to be replacements.

The walnut grip features, rococo silver wire decoration and a white metal, grotesque mask as a butt cap.

Overall, a good example of a Georgian era flintlock pistol.
