Prince of Wales Pocket Pistol Egg of London c1840

$3200

A small and delightful, screw off barrel with drop down trigger, pocket pistol from the House of Egg, made around 1840 with possible Royal patronage. The pistol was probably made by John Egg, son of the famous Durs Egg. John traded under the name Egg until 1861.

The .40 calibre, round, smoothbore barrel measures just 1 ¼ inches with the whole pistol measuring only 4 ¾ inches. The barrel still has some fire blue finish and most of its gold herring bone pattern muzzle decoration.

The frame and tang have foliate engraving and a London view mark under the breech. The action, including the drop down trigger, is in good working order.

On the right side of the frame the word ‘London’ is set in gold as is ‘Egg’ on the left side. There is also a gold leaf pattern band behind the barrel.

The slab-sided walnut grip has a chequered back strap with an engraved silver echelon. The engraving with three feathers over a coronet is the heraldic badge of the heir apparent, the Price of Wales.

This is a rare opportunity for collectors of Royal arms.
