Pattern 1777 British Navy Sea Service Pistol
The British Royal Navy, sea service pistol has a unique distinction amongst military pistols of the flintlock era. With only minor changes, these pistols remained in general use from 1716 to 1816.
The pistol offered here is the 1777 model. The lock on this model has a shortened sear spring with the ends of two screws visible behind the cock and a bridled, rounded flash pan.
The .55 caliber, round, smooth bore barrel measures 12 inches with the whole pistol measuring around 19 ½ inches. The barrel features Tower proofs and government inspector’s marks near the breech and an inspection mark on the tang.
The flat lock plate has ‘TOWER’ engraved behind the cock and the Royal Cipher is forward of the cock. The action is in good working order.
The regulation, brass furniture and walnut stock are all in good condition for their age.
The belt hook and rammer are both non-original to the pistol.
