Pat 1858 Native Infantry Three Band Musket

$2150

Known examples of these pattern 1858, Native Infantry, three band muskets are rare. They closely resemble the third model, 1853 pattern rifle and are often mistaken for one. The pattern 1858 has a smoothbore barrel with a larger block and blade, front sight and fixed vee block, rear sight.

The 39 inch barrel on this example has been bored out to about .70 calibre, leaving the muzzle quite thin. Proof marks and acceptance stamps are at the breech.

The tail of the lock is marked with the Royal VR cypher and ‘ 1859 / TOWER’ is found forward of the hammer. The action is in good working order.

The three iron barrel bands and sling swivels are original to the musket as are the brass nose cap, trigger guard and butt plate. The butt tang is marked ‘ 7 / 276 ‘

The walnut, full-length stock is in a good used condition with a faint War Department mark still visible. There is a small loss of wood at the barrel tang. See photos.

Over-all, a good example of a rarely encountered musket.
