Pair of Prussian Travelling Pistols c1840

A matching pair, of numbered, Prussian made travelling percussion pistols in an as found, attic condition made around 1840.

The pistols, numbered ‘1’ and ‘2’ have their maker’s details, ‘F. D. RODEWALD GRAUDENZ’ engraved on the top barrel flats. The city of Graudenz is in modern day Poland but was part of Prussia in 1840.

The .50 caliber, smooth bore, octagonal barrels measure just under 6 inches while the pistols measure just over 11 inches. The barrels each have two platinum bands and foliate engraving at the breech and tangs.

The back action locks, hammers, trigger guards and butt caps all feature foliate engraving. The actions are in working order.

The walnut, half-stocks feature fluted grips with ornately carved, devil faced fore-ends

A good clean is needed and will do wonders for this pair.
