Pair of Large Belgium Dueling Pistols c1840
A large and heavy pair of Belgium, percussion, dueling pistols from an unknown maker, made around 1840.
The .45 caliber, thick, octagonal, smooth bore, sighted, Damascus barrels measure 11 ¼ inches while the pistols measure 17 inches each.
The back action locks, dolphin hammer, spur trigger guards with pineapple finals and butt caps all have foliate engravings. The locks are in good working order.
The walnut half stocks are in a solid condition with the expected handling marks from storage and use. The finely chequered grips with vacant echelons show some wear and slight bruising.
All in all, an unusually large pair of dueling pistols.
