Meredith & Moxham Bayonet Travelling Pistol c1825

$3700

A very good condition, flintlock, travelling pistol with spring bayonet and belt hook. Although the pistol is marked ‘LONDON’, Meredith & Moxham were gunmakers from Birmingham from around 1820 to 1833.

The .50 calibre, octagonal, smoothbore barrel with attached spring bayonet, measures around 3 inches while the whole pistol measures 8 ½ inches. With the bayonet, deployed the pistol measures 12 inches.

‘Meredith & Moxham’ is clearly engraved in a Gothic script on the top flat. The Birmingham proof marks, and an inspection mark on the bayonet, are also clearly visible.

The action is in good working order with both the drop-down trigger and bayonet release working as they should. The sliding safety and barrel are both stuck.

The finely chequered, walnut bag grip with vacant echelon and silver butt cap is in very good condition.

Over-all, a very good example of a late flintlock era Birmingham pistol.
