M1842 French Musketoon

Offered here is a French made model 1842 musketoon probably intended for artillery use.

The .69 caliber, smoothbore barrel with octagonal breech measures 25 ½ inches while the whole arm measures 41 inches. The barrel has a bayonet lug and what appears to be a St Etienne proof at the breech.

The back action lock is in excellent working order with a very strong main spring. The lock is clearly marked ‘MURAT & POUDERON / A ST. ETIENNE’

The iron furniture with original sling swivels, is in good condition.

The full length stock is in a good solid condition but please note that there are a number of old worm holes in the butt stock. See photos.
