Lettered & Holstered Civil War 1860 Colt Army

$5500

Offered here is a rare combination of American Civil War interest. An original 1860 model Colt Army percussion revolver with an original Civil War holster and a Colt Archive’s letter.

The .44 calibre Colt revolver has the standard features, 8 inch barrel, 6 shot rebated cylinder, creeping ratchet rammer, brass trigger guard, iron back strap and walnut grips.

The barrel address is mostly worn with only ‘ADDRESS COL SAM . . . . ‘ now clearly visible. The ‘PATTENTED SEPT 10th 1850’ is faint but visible. There is no cylinder scene remaining and only hints of the serial number.

The serial number ‘135654’ is clearly visible on the trigger guard and frame, and less so on the barrel and back strap. There is no ‘Colt’s Patent’ mark on the frame. The wedge appears to be a period replacement.

There are sub inspector marks of ‘D’ and ‘H’ on the barrel, cylinder and back strap, and a faint out-line of the final inspector’s cartouche on the left grip.

The action is strong with a tight lock up.

Over-all this revolver is in a very good used, but not abused, condition.

This Colt 1860 Army also comes with an American Civil War flap holster by Gaylord. The holster is in fair condition overall with all stitching still in place, including the plug. The Gaylord embossing is very faint and now only partially visible.

Finally, this revolver comes with a Colt archive letter stating that the revolver was made in 1863 and shipped to Nashville, Tennessee on 30th September 1863.
