Large Pepperbox by John Blissett c1850

$4800

A very fine and large percussion pepperbox by John Blissett of 321 High Holborn Street London. Blissett operated from this address from 1836 till 1850.

The .50 caliber, six shot fluted barrel cluster measures 4 ¾ inches with the whole pistol measuring 10 inches. The barrels have very clear London view and proof marks. One barrel is clearly marked ‘JOHN BLISSETT 321 HIGH HOLBORN LONDON’.

The frame, hammer, trigger guard, butt plate and cap all have foliate engraving. ‘J BLISSETT’ is also marked on the left-side of the frame above the belt hook.

The action is in good working order and the percussion nipples are in good condition.

The finely checked walnut grip, with vacant wrist echelon is in very good condition.

The pistol retains much original finish. There are some small rust spots and some corrosion along the belt hook from poor storage. See photos. Overall a very large pepperbox in very good condition.
