Irish Pocket Pistol by Anglin of Dublin c1840

$2100

A not often seen fish tailed, Irish, percussion pistol made by Anglin of Dublin. The Anglin family started making firearms in Wexford, Ireland early in the 19th century. This pistol appears to have been made by Joseph Anglin of Dublin. Joseph is listed as a gunmaker in the Dublin almanac and General Register of Ireland for 1847.

The .46 caliber, smoothbore barrel, fitted with a swivel rammer measures 3 ¼ inches while the whole pistol measures 7 ½ inches. The barrel has a concaved top rib that is engraved ‘DUBLIN’.

The back action lock has foliate engraving along with the makers name ‘ANGLIN’. The action has three distinct clicks but still releases from full cock. The iron furniture is also in good condition.

The stock is in a good used condition with some wear evident on the fish tail butt checkering.

The lack of a registration number, required by the Irish Registration Act of 1843, dates this pistol to around 1840.
