German Holster Pistol by Kuchenreuter c1780

The Kuchenreuter family where a highly regarded family of gunsmiths with patrons that included the King of Bohemia, Napoleon and the Tsar of Russia.
The .48 caliber octagonal to round barrel with extended top flat measures about 9 ½ inches and overall the pistol measures around 15 ½ inches.
The barrel is marked ‘KUCHENREUTER’ while the lock is marked IN REGENSBURG’. Both have faded original bluing.
The action is stiff but still functions.
There is Rococo period influence evident in the metal work on the rammer pipe and trigger guard as well as in the raised carving on the stock.
The stock is in a fair to good condition with evidence of use and handling. The grip with its metal butt is unusually narrow.
Overall a good example of a large holster pistol from a well-known German family of gunsmiths.
