French Model 1766 Cavalry Pistol

$4200

A very good condition French model 1766 flintlock cavalry pistol with period markings.

The .72 caliber, unsighted, smoothbore barrel measures 9 inches with the whole pistol measuring just under 16 inches. The front of the barrel is held in place by a large muzzle ring with retaining spring. The barrel is also marked with an inspection mark of ‘N’ and ‘B36’ is engraved on the barrel tang.

The flat lock plate and cock are devoid of any markings. The action is in good working order.

The all-iron furniture is in good condition, for its age and the iron rammer appears original to the pistol.

The full length stock is in a good used condition with deeply carved issuance markings of ‘A’ and ‘44’.

The lack of lock plate markings suggest that this may be a private purchase pistol.

This pistol is in remarkable condition for one that survived probable use in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars periods.

Sold as a collector item only.
