French Chatellerault Arsenal M1822 Cavalry Pistol

$2450

A typically solid and soldier proof model 1822, percussion, cavalry pistol from the Imperial French Chatellerault arsenal. Although designated as model 1822 these were only ever made as percussion pistols and started to appear around 1841.

The .69 caliber, octagonal breech, round, sighted, smoothbore barrel measures just over 7 ½ inches with the whole pistol measuring 13 ½ inches.

The lock is clearly marked ‘Mre. Imp’ale de / de Châtellerault’, the abbreviation for Manufacture Impériale de Châtellerault. The lock is in excellent working order.

The mellowed, brass furniture featuring a skull crusher butt cap with lanyard ring is in very good condition. The pistol also includes its original powder measure rammer.

The walnut stock is in a solid condition with what looks like an arsenal repair in the grip. See photos. Both the stock and barrel are numbered ‘1201’.

Over-all a very good example of a mid 19th century French cavalry pistol.
