Flintlock Traveling Pistol by W Ketland & Co

$2850

An sturdy English traveling flintlock pistol made for the North American market by the Birmingham gunmaker William Ketland around the early 1800s.

The round, smoothbore .67 caliber barrel measures 7 ¾ inches with the whole pistol measuring just under 14 inches. The barrel is clearly marked ‘LONDON’ with a tulip engraved on the tang. There are no proof marks visible.

The flat boarder line engraved lock is clearly marked ‘W / KETLAND / & Co’. The action is in very good working order.

The boarder line engraved brass furniture and full length walnut stock with vacant wrist echelon, are all in very good condition. The brass tipped hickory rammer is original to the pistol. The rammer is firmly stuck.

There is a small sliver of timber missing on the left side of the muzzle.

The hickory rammer and no visible English proofs strongly suggest that this pistol was intended for the North American market such as the Canadian fur trade.

Over all this is a solid pistol in very good condition with a very good bore and minimal corrosion.
