$4750

Offered here is an extremely scarce, American Civil War era, Alsop navy percussion revolver. Approximately 500 of these 5 shot, .36 caliber Alsop navies were made between 1862 and 1863.

The octagonal barrel on this specimen measures 4 ¼ inches with the whole revolver measuring 10 inches. The barrel has its’ original brass front sight and is very clearly marked ‘ C. R. ALSOP MIDDLETOWN CONN. / PATENTED JULY 7th. AUGUST 7th. 1860 MAY 14th. 1862 ‘.

The rear sight is a groove cut into the top of the solid frame. The left side of the frame, just below the hammer, is clearly marked ‘ JANY 21 ST 1862 ‘. The fluted cylinder is also marked ‘ C. H. ALSOP PATENTED / NOV 26th 1861 ‘. The serial number ‘144’ is found on the butt.

The Alsop revolvers use a complex mechanism which has a rotating plate that indexes the cylinder in an anti-clockwise direction. The action on this revolver is stiff but in good working order.

The grips are in good condition with the expected handling marks.
