English Proofed Colt 3rd Model Deringer

A very good English proofed Colt 3rd Model ‘Thuer’ Deringer in .41 Rimfire short with a late serial number 42423.
The third model Deringer was designed by Colt employee F. Alexander Thuer and went into production in 1870.
This pistol has standard features of 2 ½ inch sideways pivoting barrel, walnut grips and a sloping hammer.
The top of the barrel is marked ‘COLT’ and the left side of the frame is marked ’41 CAL’. The serial number 42423 is stamped on the frame under the grips which are also hand numbered to the pistol.
English proofs appear on the underside of the barrel.
The action is in perfect working order.
The barrel retains much of its original colour with some wear on the left side. The nickeled frame is also is in a very good condition but again with some wear on the right side and blemishing on the butt.
The grips are in very good condition retaining most of their original varnish.
It is estimated that some 47,000 of these 3rd model Colt Deringers were made with production ending in 1912.
