Elaborate Snaphance Pistol Munoz Pedro 1627

$20000
A very elaborately steel chiseled, clearly marked and dated ‘MUNOZ PEDRO 1627’ snaphance traveling pistol in a very good condition.
The snaphance, with its automatic sliding pan cover, appeared around the 1550s and was an improvement over the earlier snaplock. The snaphance started to decline around the 1650s.
The .62 caliber octagonal to round smoothbore barrel measures just over 8 inches. The whole pistol measures just under 15 inches. There is a very worn portrait bust figure near the tang and a very clear ‘MUNOZ PEDRO 1627’ on the top of the barrel.
The lock, cock and striker are all chiseled and engraved with swirls, foliage, faces and mythical beasts. Note the face at the tail of the lock and on the cock.
The mainspring is strong but the action will not hold full or half cock.
The side plate has meandering vines and leaves, with four mystical beast heads and a portrait bust of classical Roman form.
The trigger guard also has a portrait bust of classical form surrounded with foliage. The trigger guard final and terminus also have foliate forms. The trigger has an attached serpentine form.
The rammer pipe has a terminus of intertwining vines and the rammer appears to be original to the pistol.
The long-eared butt has a combination of vines, foliage and mystical beast heads.
The full-length stock is in very good condition.
For a pistol that will be tuning 400 years old in 2027 it is in very good condition.
