Early Travelling pistol by Collumbell c1750

$2850

A rare, early travelling pistol made by David Collumbell of London around 1750. Collumbell is recorded as working from Parliament Street, Westminster, London between 1735 to 1765.

The .62 caliber, three stage, round, smoothbore barrel measures 8 inches while the whole pistol measures just under 14 inches. The barrel has faint, early London proofs.

The plain, rounded lock with swan neck cock is clearly engraved ‘COLLUMBELL’. The action is still in good working order.

All the brass furniture is in good condition with an even mellow patina. The pistol also features a long-eared butt cap, skeleton side plate and vacant writ echelon.

The full length stock is in a used but still solid condition. Please note that there is a small chip in the stock at the left side of the muzzle and the barrel pin nearest the lock is missing.

The ebony rammer is missing its worm.

Over all a good, early flintlock from a reputable 18th century maker.
