Early Percussion Pistol by Lamotte of Paris c1820

$2300

Offered here is an early, or sometimes called transitional, percussion pistol marked Lamotte of Paris. This pistol was made at the time when percussion cap technology was first introduced. Gunmakers adapted existing flintlock parts, on hand, to accommodate the new technology. This pistol is not a conversion.

The Lamotte family had a history of gun marking going back to the early 1700s.

The .65 caliber, round, sighted, smoothbore barrel measures 8 ¾ inches with the whole pistol measuring just under 15 inches. The barrel has a top flat where the name ‘LAMOTTE’ can still be read.

The lock plate and hammer have foliate engraving with the lock plate also being marked ‘A PARIS’. The hair trigger action is in good working order.

The butt plate, trigger guard and rammer entry are also engraved.

The full length stock with a fine checked grip is in good condition and the rammer appears original to the pistol.

As an added bonus the wrist echelon is engraved with the original owners monogram of ‘BP’.

Overall an interesting early French percussion pistol.

Sold as a collector item only.

Price includes postage in Australia, lay buy available.
