Early European Holster Pistol by Borqvin c1740

$8000
An early European flintlock holster pistol of good quality made around 1740. The Baroque period carving suggest Italian while the Fleur de lys suggest a French influence.
The sighted .65 caliber smoothbore round barrel with top flat measures 12 ½ inches while the whole pistol measures 19 ½ inches. The barrel has a gold band and three Fleur de lys at the breech and the name ‘A BORQVIN’ in gold on the top flat. This may be the pistol maker or the barrel maker.
The lock features cast brass face and vines on the lock and cock and unusually a face on the front of the frizzen. The lock is in good working order.
The brass furniture features a hexagonal butt cap, vacant echelon, elaborate side plate and trigger guard. These would have probably been originally covered with gold leaf when new.
The full stock is in good condition for its age with one old worm hole in the grip and a sliver missing from the left side at the muzzle. Pitting around the touch hole is evidence of use.
