Chiselled Steel Barrel Dutch flintlock c1720

$6500
An elaborate early 18th century flintlock holster pistol probably of Dutch manufacture.
The .65 calibre smoothbore barrel measures 12 ½ inches while the whole arm measures 19 inches. The barrel is elaborately cold steel chiselled with figures and foliage. This design appears to be influenced by the Dutch experience in the far east and the Dutch East India Company [VOC, Vereenigde Oost Indische Compagnie].
The lock and cock also show a similar influence.
The action is too stiff to function at the moment. The very top portion of the frizzen has been broken off.
The brass side plate, trigger guard and hollow pommel are also chiselled in the same fashion.
The carved wooden stock, with steel brilliants, is in good condition with the usual signs of wear that you would expect from a 300 year of pistol.
The original horn tipped rammer is missing its end and is now too short to use.
Overall, an interesting early 18th century pistol.
