Belgium Empire Style Conversion Pistol c1830

Offered here is a Belgium made, empire style, travelling pistol originally made as a flintlock around 1830 and later converted to percussion.

The .69 caliber, sighted, octagonal, swamped, poly grooved barrel measures 7 ¾ inches with the whole pistol measuring 14 inches. There is also a piece of metal attached to the underside of the barrel, the purpose of which mystifies me.

The lock and hammer are delicately engraved with foliage and a bird behind the hammer. The action is in good working order. At half cock the hammer is just slightly off the percussion nipple, as intended.

The barrel tang, side-plate, trigger guard and butt cap are also delicately engraved in the same manner as the lock.

The walnut three quarter stock shows signs of use but is generally in good condition. The fine checkering on the grip is in good condition as is the low relief carving around the butt and rammer entry.

Note that there is no rammer.
