5 Shot Civil War Era Colt Pocket, c1860
Here is a very good example of a Model 1849 Colt Pocket Percussion Revolver made in 1860. Made just prior to the American Civil War it still has sharp profiles and all matching numbers, including the wedge.
The .31 caliber, octagonal and sighted barrel measures 4 inches with the whole revolver measuring 8 ½ inches. The barrel has a very clear two-line address ‘ADDRESS SAML COLT / HARTFORD CT’.
On the cylinder the engraved, stagecoach scene is clearly visible, as is the ‘COLT’S PATENT’ and number ‘80166’. The action is in good working order with good indexing and lock up.
The serial number ‘180166’ appears on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap. ‘80166’ appears on the wedge and cylinder and ‘0166’on the loading lever.
The trigger guard still has strong traces of silvering.
The grips are also in very good condition with some handling marks and thinning original varnish.
