Evil Smiley Face Queen Anne by Clarkson c1725

A quality, Queen Anne flintlock pistol with an unusual butt cap made by Joshep Clarkson around 1725. Joseph Clarkson worked in and around London from 1680 to 1730.

The .58 caliber, three stage, smoothbore, screw-off, cannon barrel measures 4 ¼ inches with the whole pistol measuring 10 ½ inches.

The name ‘CLARKSON’ is found under the recumbent ‘L’ shaped frizzen spring. A London view mark and Clarkson’s own ‘IC’ mark are found on the underside of the breech. The action still holds full and half cock but is difficult to release.

The bulbous, walnut grip is in good condition as is the most unusual silver butt cap. This is why I call it an evil smiley face, see photos. There are no silver smith hall marks.
