Three Shot Tap Action Pocket Pistol c1815

An excellent and rare three shot, tap action flintlock, pocket pistol, probably made between 1815 to 1825. There is no maker’s name on the pistol but there is a maker’s touch mark which is unknown to me at present.

The .38 caliber, round, screw-off, smooth bore barrels measure 1 ½ inches with the whole pistol measuring just over three inches. The barrels are marked 1, 2 & 3 and correspond to the numbers on the breech. Note the barrels are stuck fast at present.

The breech at number 3, has post 1815 Birmingham proofs with the makers touch mark of a bird in flight under a tower.

The frame is engraved in the usual late, Georgian era style with a stand of arms on both sides. The oval that usually has the maker’s name is vacant. The action only holds on full cock and releases from there, as intended. Both the sliding safety and the tap are stiff and in need of oiling.

The slab-sided, walnut grip with vacant echelon is in good used condition with no repairs. The wood to metal fit is excellent.
