Silver Wire Pocket Conversion by Turvey c1745

$1750

An excellent Queen Anne, pocket pistol made as a flintlock by William Turvey around 1745 and later converted to percussion almost 100 years later.

William Turvey is listed as working in London between 1711 to 1748 (see Der Neue Stöckel p1307).

The .44 caliber, smoothbore, three stage, screw off, canon barrel measures 2 ¼ inches with the whole pistol measuring 7 ½ inches. The breech is deeply stamped with early London proofs and the number ‘1’ clearly visible forward of the breech and on the barrel.

The early, rounded box lock is engraved ‘TURVEY’ under foliate scrolls on one side and martial themes on the other. The action is in good working order with a very strong main spring.

The iron trigger guard and plain butt cap are in good condition. The butt cap features boarder engraving.

The walnut grip shows minimal wear and the fine silver inlay is in remarkable condition for its age of 275 years.
