Provincial Dueling pistol by W Fletcher c1830.

A good percussion dueling pistol by the provincial maker William Fletcher of Gloucester made round 1830.
The heavy and sighted .50 octagonal smooth bore barrel measures just over 9 inches while the whole pistol measures just over 13 ½ inches.
The backaction lock is engraved with the makers name of ‘W FLETCHER / & SON’. Typical period engraving is found on all steel components except the swivel rammer and barrel key. The white metal echelon is vacant.
The action is in very good working order and the bore is in very good condition.
The full length walnut stock with horn tip is in a very good condition including the checked grip and bare butt.
The pistol has much original finish with browning on the barrel and blue on the spur trigger guard.
The small bore, the sighted heavy barrel, the spurred trigger guard and set trigger all point to this being one of a pair of dueling pistols.
