London Agency Colt 3rd Model Deringer s/n 28239

A very good condition Colt 3rd Model ‘Thuer’ Deringer in .41 Rimfire with Colt London Agency markings.
The third model Deringer was designed by Colt employee F. Alexander Thuer and went into production in 1870. Production ceased in 1912 with some 47,000 units made.
This pistol has standard features of 2 ½ inch sideways pivoting barrel, walnut grips and a sloping hammer.
The top of the barrel is marked ‘COLT’ and the left side of the frame is marked ’41 CAL’ along with the rampant colt and ‘C’ that indicate the Colt London Agency. The mid production serial number 28239 is stamped on the frame under the grips.
English proofs appear on the underside of the barrel.
The action does not hold full or half cock and there is a wobble along the pivot.
Both the barrel and brass frame have matured to an even patina and all with clear markings.
The grips also retain much of their original varnish.
