Italian Holster pistol, Vicenzo Cominazzo C1695

A late 17th century Italian holster pistol probably from the Cominazzo family of Gardone Val Trompia in Lombardy. The barrel marking of ‘VICENZO COMINAZZO’ dates the pistol nicely as it is believed that Vicenzo was executed in 1695.
The .59 caliber smoothbore octagonal to a round barrel with top flat measures just over 12 inches with the whole pistol measuring 19 inches. The barrel has a front sight and is clearly marked ‘VICENZO COMINAZZO’.
The lock and cock are chiseled with floral patterns with a demon face chiseled on the swan cock retaining screw. The lock is in working order.
The brass side plate has flower and vine decorations including a mythical beast head. The brass trigger guard is lightly engraved and another demon face is found on the butt cap. The brass echelon is vacant.
The carved walnut full length stock is in good order and a horn tipped rammer is present.
After more than 300 years the Lombardy region is still active in gun making being home to FAMARS, Beretta and Pedersoli amongst others.
