Pair of Silver wire Pistols by Bunney c1779

$5750
A very fine pair of silver wire inlayed flintlock pistols by the English gun maker Joseph Bunny made around 1780. The grandfather, father and son [1730 – 1815] where all named Jpseph.
The .58 calibre screw off cannon barrels measure 5 ¾ inches and the pistols each measure 12 ¾ inches. Birmingham proofs are also on each.
The engraved lock are marked ‘LONDON’ and ‘BUNNEY’.
The elaborate silver wire inlays on the grips is of a very fine quality and amazingly 97% of the wire is still intact. Even near an impact blemish on one of the grips.
The wood its self is a very good condition vacant oval silver echelons.
The pistols are finished off with silver grotesque mask butt caps. The Birmingham hallmarks are rubbed but one date mark suggests Birmingham 1779.
One pistol’s action works but is stiff and the other needs help to release from full cock and only one barrel screws off with ease.
