Holster Pistol by Frederick Barnes c1850

A large and solid full stocked percussion holster pistol by Frederick Barnes of London.
The pistol measure over 13 inches with an 8 ¼ inch smoothbore .70 calibre Birmingham proofed barrel.
Sparse engraving is found on the barrel tang, lock plate, hammer, brass trigger guard and rammer pipe. The makers name ‘BARNES’ in engraved on the lock plate.
The action is in good working order.
The stock is in good order with the usual dings and knocks and a small shallow crack at the lock plate retaining screw which sits proud of the stock. The rammer fit and length is correct and appears to be original to the pistol.
This pistol also appears to have been in Australia for a long time as evident by the police registration number ‘007478’ stamped on the trigger guard tang.
Barnes started production around 1850 and this looks like an early example of his work using some older flintlock parts.
