Cased Dragoon Sized Pepperbox by Bourne c1850


A superbly massive cased pepperbox in excellent condition.
The .58 calibre 5 shot fluted barrel cluster measures over 5 inches and the whole pistol measures an enormous 11 ½ inches. The barrels have London proofs with very good bores and each chamber is sequentially engraved with numbers 1 to 5.
The makers details ‘JOSEPH BOURNE. / MAKER No. 5 WHITTALL STREET /ST MARY’S SQUARE’ are on the frame amongst acanthus foliate engraving.
The frame, trigger guard, hinged butt cap, nipple shield and barrel retaining screw are all engraved.
The centre hammer has a sliding safety and the action works as intended.
The fine checked grip with vacant echelon is in excellent condition. Case colours are still visible throughout the pistol.
The original partitioned Mahogany case lined with green baize and a shield echelon to the lid. There is a chip missing to a rear corner.
The case contains the original accessories, nipple key, combination bullet mould –rammer, Dixson & Sons oil bottle and Dixson & Sons powder flask.
