Massachusetts Arms Co Civil War Era Adams Navy
An Adam’s patent revolver with a Kerr’s patent rammer made by the Massachusetts Arms Company under licence.
The .36 calibre 6 inch octagonal barrel is marked ‘MANUCATURED BY / MASS. ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS’ in three lines on the top strap.
The left side of the frame is marked ‘ADAM’S PATENT / MAY 3 1856’ while the right side is marked ‘PATENT / JUNE 3 1856’. The rammer is marked KERR’S PATENT / APRIL 14th 1857’.
Serial number ‘457’ appears on the plain 5 shot cylinder and the number ‘839’ appears at the front of the rammer. The walnut checked grips are in good condition.
There is much original blueing left on the revolver.
The double action works as intended but it will not hold full cock.
With only 1000 ever made this is a good example of a very rare American Civil War era percussion revolver not often encountered in the USA and almost impossible to find in Australia.
