1812 dated French Gendarmerie Pistol

A Napoleonic Year 9 French Gendarmerie flintlock pistol dated 1812.
The .60 calibre smoothbore barrel measures 5 inches with the whole pistol measuring 9 ¾ inches. The barrel and tang are engraved ‘Manuf Roy le Maubeuge’ and dated 1812.
The lock is fitted with a brass pan and is engraved with ‘Maubeuge / Manuf Imp’. The lock also bears an inspector’s acceptance mark. The lock is in very good condition and working order.
The iron furniture is in a very clean polished state and the rammer original to the pistol.
The walnut stock stamped 1812 is also in a very good condition and bears the correct cartouches for the Maubeuge arsenal on the wrist counter lock area.
As part of their kit these pistols were issued in pairs to the much feared ‘Gendarmerie Imperial’ who frequently had a vicious take no prisoners policy, especially when dealing with Spanish guerrilla bands. These d’Elite of the Old Guard where all proven combat veterans of at least four campaigns.
